Derry City & Strabane District Council, in partnership with the Department for Communities-Historic Environment Division and its heritage stakeholders have prepared a Heritage Plan for the District that aims to ensure our historic environment is understood, protected and used to its full potential.

It is the first of its kind and focuses on the sustainable development of our tangible historic environment with 8 objectives which enable us to make the most of our heritage potential across the Council area. A series of actions for the next 5 years have been developed to help achieve these objectives in partnership with heritage stakeholders.  Whilst no funding is committed to these actions just yet, Council and its partners are committed to identifying external funding opportunities to assist with the delivery of the Heritage Plan.

A District Heritage Stakeholder group has been established to act as the key body to help coordinate and deliver on the actions of the plan. Membership of the Group is drawn from stakeholders in the historic environment sector and other parties with an interest in protecting and sustainably developing built heritage across the Council area.
