Come along and listen to the fascinating story of Belfast’s industrial heritage by industrial archaeologist Dr Fred Hamond. Belfast’s industrial growth began in the late 1700s and by 1900 it had become Ireland’s preeminent city . This talk will highlight some of the city’s principal industries (e.g. linen manufacture, ship building and engineering), and also cover its utility industries (water, gas and electricity), and transport network (railways and bridges). The legacy of these various activities will also be illustrated.
