What is the Owners Forum?

This year, Historic Environment Division is hosting a short series of lunchtime talks focussing on how owners and custodians interact with and sustain their heritage. The talks are aimed at those who live in, use and take care of listed buildings either directly or indirectly; but everyone with an interest is welcome.

Where is it happening?

Because of the continuing uncertainty around Covid-19, the talks will be held online.

What’s happening?

There are three talks covering different aspects of listed buildings.

The ‘greenest’ building is an existing building and we want to keep you informed and help you understand how you can make your historic building more energy-efficient, so we have invited an expert from Historic Environment Scotland to talk about ways this can be done sensitively and effectively.

Last year we held a public consultation on our Conservation Principles Guidance and we will be holding a talk about what these principles mean when we want to change buildings and how we use them to work out how listed buildings can work for us while retaining their special character.

Our third talk will be by Ulster Architectural Heritage(UAH) who promote the historic built environment through a wide range of projects, one of the current initiatives being their ‘Hands on Heritage’ programme. UAH also work in partnership with HED to deliver the Heritage at Risk project. This talk will look at both the Heritage at Risk and the Hands on Heritage projects and discuss how they aim to transform the way UAH works to support people and communities to engage with the historic environment in NI.

The talks are an opportunity to learn about some important issues which matter both to owners and the wider community, so that everyone can keep enjoying these special buildings into the future.

When is it?

The talks are happening over a series of three Friday lunchtimes, beginning on 25th February 2022 and thereafter, fortnightly on 11th March and 25th March 2022. The talks will begin at 12.30pm and last approximately an hour.
